The main purpose of doing it is to prevent data loss or just make some duplicate to be distributed to some friends or college.

The newest technology of storage disks are Blu-ray, un-scratch and last more longer. Although there were other storage with bigger capacities, but nothing can beat the size and efficiency of disks.
